Noach was the first generation to be born after the death of Adam;

Metushelach died the same year as the Flood (was he killed by the Flood? would he have lived even longer had the earth not been flooded?);

Lemekh, Metushelach's son and Noach's father, died 5 years before the Flood;

Shem was no "boy" when the world was flooded--he was 98 years old;

Shem would live another 502 years after the Flood;

Noach was 890 years old when Avram was born, which was 290 years after the Flood, and he would live another 60 years after Avram's birth (did they know each other? could Avram have learned directly from Noach, or at least from Shem, who G-d is and what it meant to be obedient and faithful?);

Shem was 388 when Avram was born and would live another 212 years;

Yitz'chak was born 390 years after the Flood--Shem was 488 and would live another 112 years, and Avram, at 100, would live another 75 years and die 465 years after the Flood (after fathering 6 more sons through K'turah--what happened to these sons?);

Yitz'chak was 40 when he married Rivkah;

'Esav and Ya'akov were born 450 years after the Flood--Shem was 548 and would live another 52 years, Avraham was 160 and would live another 15 years, and Yitz'chak was 60 and would live another 120 years;

Yitz'chak died at 180 years old, 570 years after the Flood;

Ya'akov was 130 (580 years after the Flood and just 78 years after Shem's death and only 10 years after Yitz'chak's death) when he moved to Egypt, and would live another 17 years;

Yosef was about 17 when he was sold into slavery and would live another 93 years. (I haven't figured out, yet, how many years after the Flood this was.)

Many of you may have known these things already, but it really helped me to see the bigger picture as I realized who all was still alive when certain major events occurred, and how many generations were living at the same time. I stayed up past midnight a few nights ago calculating all of this. Some of it may be off slightly, but it was terribly interesting to me at the time!

It is very interesting!, I did a similare study years ago

Methuselah did die right before the flood came, he was not taken away with the rest, he was as righteous as Noah was. I read somewhere that his name means something like , "his death bring it" or something like it.

There are many Rabbinic traditions about Shem and teaching Noah and Abraham.

Some believe that Keturah is the same as Hagar, name change like many others at that time.

This chart may help you, http://www.biblehistory.webcentral.com.au/Table1.htm if correct , and Joseph was born when Jacob was 91 then Jacob was born 506 years after the flood, if I've figured this out properly.

Tradition says that Shem was the righteous king of Salem
