View Full Version : New subforum ideas?

Shalom MJ Forum participants
The Messianic Staff Team has been discussing possibly adding another sub-forum to the Messianic Forum that would expand participation from ALL of our Messianic members.
What I would like to do is start this thread to discuss our ideas for what that new forum would entail. After we mention our ideas, MJ staff will narrow it down to three choices and I will post a poll. Whichever forum receives the most votes will be added, after I present it to Erwin for consideration.
So state what kind of subforum you would like to see available to you as an addition to the MJ Forum.
A couple of my personal ideas, as I was brainstorming:
"Current Events in Israel" Sub-forum to discuss Israel's news stories and cover everything from politics to anti-semitism, etc. This would be dedicated to discussions about current events in Israel and other related stories.
"Israel and Prophecy" sub-forum to discuss Israel in relation to prohecies from the Bible. This would involve detailed discussions on prophecies that have occured or will occur in the future.
These are a couple of my own ideas... you may think of new ones and toss mine out altogether! :D I won't be upset ;) Or if you like one in particular, please say so here. Also feel free to expound upon any of the above. If you wish to suggest a new idea altogther, make sure it would be a forum that would involve ALL Messianic members, regardless of the member's level of observancy... we must have a forum that all Messianics may freely particpate in.
Todah!

Hi Pray4isral, I like your idea about Israel and Prophecy, I think this would be good for us as well as a "learning" place for others interested in prophecy concerning who Israel was and is and will be in the future. :)
I have a question, if you do make this sub-forum, (which I am guessing would only be found through coming to MJ first?) would some of the existing threads be put into it?
I would like to see a SubF titled something like "Henaynei's Helpful Halacha" where all her wonderful advise and threads are for quick reference for us. There are many threads that could go in there already and it would be a great place to go for just such a thing to learn of Jewish life. Or if that is too specific then a Halacha sub-forum would be helpful to those of us here and the lurkers who are trying to learn.
Well that is all I can think of, I think this would be a good idea because the forum is growing and it's hard to go through all the new posts each day to find out what they are really about.
Shalom

http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/10/10_1_24.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001) LOL! Not only is that a great idea, I have to say my hubby (TorahLover) wanted to suggest the same thing last night -- only with everyone's helpful hints on Torah observance etc., not only Henny's though she popped immediately to mind of course ;) So I guess you could say Zayit has a second on that idea!
I honestly think a forum is needed, as Erin mentioned, for discussion of Israel politics/news happenings etc. I am sure there are other places here where it can be discussed, but it seems to me that topics that would fall under such a subforum are common on our commuity forum here, maybe increasingly common, and probably will continue to be. Would there be any way we could combine some of these things, like prophecy and news into one forum, just generally about Israel? OKay, how many subforums could we feasibly have? (see how helpful I am??? NOT! LOL) (just a thought :) )

LOL Z, great minds think alike  I think your idea of a combination of Prophecy and the News is great. Afterall Prophecies of old are now becoming news. It would be a good way to keep up on all the world's happenings concerning Israel.

Once again, I should like to thank MJ members and moderators for their inclusive approach to Christian and Jewish thought.
Both sub forum ideas hold enormous appeal for me, an outsider. Biblical prophecy = Israel = Current Events, especially in these times. Frankly, I would like to spend more time over here, less at home.
For example, there is an MJ thread today which begs for synthesis, a synthesis I believe is essential to a better understanding of prophetic phrases like “…enmity between you and the woman … "(Gen 3:15), and “The woman herself fled into the desert, where a special place had been prepared for her by G-d…"(Rev 12:6). A prophecy/current events sub forum would raise up an inclusive dais for dialogue and discovery and keep us better informed.

I think 2 subs would be good
One to discuss the political issues in and around Isreal and Zionism
Down side here would be we all would be constantly on the attack there are we ready?
Two
One to discuss and debate with non messianics much as the Jewish / Messianic area is done. Downside is that things could get messy fast. But I do think an areana where non messianics have an opportunity to debate is called for. Many times we shut them down in the middle of a discussion when they are trying to defend themselves or faith. That does not give us much of a chance to convince them. It could get bloody fast though.

I think it would go something like this:
Ready! Fire! Aim!
But hey, I'm up for it! I've been fighting off anti-Israel arguments since day one, why not have an entire forum devoted to it! :D

I think that we are quickly seeing that we need 3 subforums.
1. Middle East Politics/Prophecy/Zionism
2. Messianic/Non-Messianic Debate
3. Halacha
I think all of these are excellent. I'm not much of a politics/prophecy person (gives me a headache), and I'm not much of a debater (same reason...with the addition of heartburn), but I would live my life in the Halacha area...I have learned so much here!! And I am hungry to learn more...like many others here, I am not affiliated with any Messianic congregation...in fact, you people are the only Messianics I know except the one I married  There is no one here to teach me.
The thing that I think needs to be addressed, is what will be the role of the main room once this is done? If we can answer that, we can better isolate the things that need to go elsewhere.
Blessings,
Shade

Honestly, creating a Israel forum would only be inviting the vipers, I do love defending Israel but not only is it tiresome it can get frustrating when people flat out accuse Israel becuase it defends its civilians from blood thirsty murderers.

OK, I'll be the naysayer. I personally feel that if you have too many subforums, people don't know where to post, so they post in the main forum (which kinda negates the whole idea of subforums). On the other hand, many people tend not to read subforums anyway, so a lot of good information/discussions may go unseen.
What purpose would these subforums serve? To relieve traffic from the main forum? So information can be easier obtained? All of the above (and more)?
Assuming every subforum created works well, and people post on-topic posts in the correct forums--what happens to the main forum? What would it be used for?
Just some thoughts/questions...

I thought it would be nice to have a forum about celebrations or observances (such as hanukkah and pass over), where people could discuss and explain festivities with people like me (who are just learning), as well as share with each other how they celebrate and share ideas. I saw a similar forum on another site, it people get really excited about sharing with others how they celebrate their faith.
Ok.. that is my idea.

The secret, Hix, is to call the subforum by a name which doesn't draw the vipers:
"Messianic and Non-Messianic Dialogue on whether it is suitable to inject Fix-a-Flat foam into a flat tire on ones car during the Sabbath."
or
"Do birds in their little nests really agree?--Poetic Quotations Compared with the Torah for Accuracy."
Then you can discuss Israel in relative safety, since the board will show that you're discussing a real snoozer of a subject. :)

I would like to see more on the symbolic ceremonial fall feasts as they relate to a prophetic fullfillment like Jesus can and fulfilled the spring time feasts. Since Jesus fulfilled the Passover, The Feast of Unleaven bread,(1Cor 15:20) and the Pentacost, should we look to understand how he will fulfill the second coming in light of the fall feasts? I am looking forward to the feast of ingathering when the Lord will gather us to take us home.

Erin, a poll is a fine idea, but, as a guest, should I vote in it or abstain?
Personally, I would be inclined to abstain; it's not my forum, and I feel I should have no part in any decision making process. I'm sure that your other visitors will want to know the answer to this question as well.
