To Life Immortal
St. Elvis?” inquired our intrepid Onion Dome editor. “Long forgotten saint from 17th Century Russia. Invented leather trousers,” explained Fr. Vitaly.
:D
Is this saint the same as St. Elvis of Vegas?
A little less conversation, a little more action please
All this aggravation ain't satisfactioning me
A little more bite and a little less bark
A little less fight and a little more spark
I think the above is a reference to less talking and strife and more peace and love. A great saint, that Elvis. :holy:
Peace and Long Life

After the conversion of the rock star Konstantin Kinchev, Orthodox rock concerts are not something new here.

And then the lead guitarist (whose name is Father Valery) broke into a blistering solo which caused dust to fall from the icons in the corner of the recording studio.
“Wow, that’s really loud,” said our intrepid editor when the song was over and the ringing in his ears had subsided to mere annoyance levels.
“Our amps are going up to 12,” explained Fr. Valery. “12 is number of Apostles.”

Huh, in English! You want too much :P I'll try to find something. Meanwhile, you can read this article: Do Rock and Orthodoxy Have Anything in Common? (http://english.pravda.ru/science/19/95/380/11575_church.html)

Songs of Yury Shevchuk and DDT with translations into English: http://dime32.dizinc.com/~russmus/bands-ddt.htm They don't sing straightly about Orthodoxy, but I think the songs are influenced by the faith.
If you want to hear some song, tell me and I'll give you the link to the MP3 from group's own site.

Isn't it what Mel Torme (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mel_Torme) and Ella Fitzgerald (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scat_chorus) made popular :)

Actually, Russian rock always leaned towards philosophy and spirituality and lyrics always were very important. Plus, rock was frowned upon by the state and somehow shared the position of the Christianity. Many groups, like DDT, Aquarium, Nautilus Pompilius and others used Christian themes, images in their songs. But I can't say they used it as a means of witnessing or something. Konstantin Kinchev is maybe the only example of an "old" rocker who started to write songs straightly about Orthodoxy.
However there are quite a few new rock and "bard" (songs with acoustic guitar) groups who do sing about faith and see it as a witness.
