Hi WesleyJohn. I'm not Nazarene, but I have had the opportunity to fellowship with you good Christian folk! I have been to a few Dave Ramsey seminars, and the Nazarene church in Bethany, Oklahoma always serves as a yearly destination for him. They have always been a very welcoming congregation, to open their home to so many people to help them get back on their feet. Also, Southern Nazarene University is here. Great people, excellent examples for Christ!

What are Nazarenes, if you don't mind my asking? :)

Hi! I'm not actually Nazarene. The church I belong to is non-denominational, but my pastor there attended the College of the Nazarene in Olathe, KS. We've been going over to the college around Easter the past few years to attend their production of "The Victor". It's a wonderful Passion Play. I've met some really great folks who are members of the church.

I grew up in College Church, in Olathe. My parents and my sisters family both attend there now. There are some wonderful folks there.

I used to be Nazarene. I was born into the Nazarene Church and continued going every Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night until I was a teenager. My family still attends that frequently. I, on the other hand, have left and have since been baptized, properly catechized, and confirmed in the Lutheran Church Missouri-Synod. Could you explain to me the concept of "entire sanctification," the insistence of avoiding alcohol and cigarettes, and the whole "holiness" life that one is supposed to attain? No one in my church, could answer these question for me sufficiently. That is with Scripture.

So, as I understand it, since my questions are outside the intention of this thread, and because I do not possess the filters, which are necessary to interpret Truth accurately....I am told tough luck? I am asking to better understand my family's position correctly. Who better to ask then a formally trained minister? Honestly, I hear over and over again about this idea of emotion or feeling that dominates not only their church service but also thier everyday lives. Mom and Dad claim that God speaks to them, and when I ask how, they look at me like I am Satan Himself. I do believe that God speaks to you, in Holy Absolution, in Holy Baptism, in Holy Communion, and in Holy Scripture. The very words of our Lord and Savior are present and true. But it almost seems as if the Law which is written on our hearts that threatens and brings condemnation for our rebellion is that voice that they speak of. Maybe, it is a devil whispering sweet words of vanity into their ear, of false Law fulfillment. I have no idea and they cant explain it to me. My hope is that you, being a learned Nazarene minister of youth, could shed light upon this subject. If there is a way to discuss this, I would like to. I also respect your decision and will not post again if asked not to. If there is a thread set up specifically for this, please direct me there.
Thanks and Praise be to our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus.
May the Peace of the Lord be with you always!

nyj: (if you are still reading) What else do you know about SNU?
That they have a pretty decent basketball program. :)
Sorry, my life revolves around sports a bit too much sometimes. :D
