Quick Hebrew question

Could someone with knowledge of Hebrew possibly be so kind as to tell me what these three words mean (as nouns)?

I do actually know the third word. It's the first two words I am having trouble finding, and particularly the second (babylon dictionary doesn't know the 2nd, and only gave me a verb meaning for the 1st edit: babylon doesn't know the 1st either, it got messed up with the first two letters being combined as one in the font)

If you wish to know their context (they are from scripture), I'll tell you, but I'd rather see the range of possible meanings first if that's ok.

1. Vav Yod Mem Tsadie Aleph (the text I copied from combined Vav and Yod as one character)

The first word is pronounced vayimtsa and means "he found".

The second word is strange and is not in the large Oxford Hebrew-English. Give me the entire sentence and I could tell you.

Thanks for checking Israeli. Unfortunately there appear to be quite a few web pages that include the word so it does seem to exist.

I noticed that it is used with the word vav bet resh in between, such as if the word were "little" it would be "little by little" , does that help at all? I can't find it in my dictionary though. Seems from the Google serach that it has something to do with Kabbalah?

Where did you see this 2nd word?

I ran a search in Online Bible on the BHS Hebrew and it reported no such word.

I think this is the word that ALL English translations would translate as "locusts", though it does not resemble the Hebrew word for "locusts".
I ask because the Greek word "akrida" (akris) means both "locusts" and "shoots or herbs" but since Jerome's translation into Latin it has ALWAYS been translated as "locusts". I want to see what the Syriac Peshita says but haven't a hope to read Syriac whereas there are plenty of resources for Hebrew.

BTW, Greeks have always understood the latter definition and smile when they see the English translations.

Wrong century Hebrew for those greek documents. I think the editors made a mistake.

I found the word Kamtza in the Even-Shoshan Hebrew-Hebrew dictionary.

First meaning -It was the name given to one of two people charged with helping cause the destruction of the 2nd temple because of their miserliness. (commes from the word Kamtzan which means a miser) (from the talmudic times) (other version - Bar Kamtza)

Other meaning- another name for a kamatz (from the middle ages)

I'm not exactly sure what you are refering to about the locusts. Arbé is the word that means locasts. (third word)

The second word in Aramaic I found listed as a proper name ("Dictionary of Jewish Palestinian Aramaic" Bar Ilan University Press, Michael Sokoloff). There were several more listings in Jastrow's Dictionary with references for Targum.

I'm a hack in Aramaic but what is your reference in the Peshitta? I would be glad to give it a try....

Well the Peshitta was written in Aramaic not Hebrew,
like I said a long time ago, that word is not a Hebrew word but you refused to believe an Israeli.

I noticed that there is an issue with the second word. The second word is not Hebrew. It is Aramaic. Two things to consider.

1. When a word in Hebrew ends with an aleph it is usually (not always) Aramaic.
2. Given that the google search you did on the word came up with many references to "Bar Kamtza", it is a give away to Aramaic. "Bar" is Aramaic for "Ben"

Hope this helps. I'm not sure what it means b/c my resources for Aramaic aren't here at the moment
