ok, my best friend's boy friend has just asked me a question. i answered best i could but it's hard to explain to someone who's not a christian. here's the question in his exact words:
"You realize that everyone is a sinner... How come we weren't given a chance to be perfect? And I don't mean Adam and Eve. I know they got the chance and blew it. But how come we don't get that same chance?"
how do you answer something like that?

"How come we weren't given a chance to be perfect? "
I would answer him practically. Say, go the whole day without "sinning" then come back and ask me that again. It is a moot point. We have sinnned, so regardless the reason when it really doesn't matter :)

i tried it from that angle but he came right back with:
"But why didn't God give us the chance to be perfect?"

We have the chance. We just fail at it exactly like they did.

Then ask him, if he did, could you? If he answers he could be perfect he is lying..then say, its a moot point then...If you can't walk..I'm not going to enter you in a marathon.

Why doesn't God give us the chance to be perfect? Where did your friend get the assumption that He doesn't? The answer is He does.
When Christians sin, the slate is wiped clean, as if they hadn't sinned, and they get another chance to be perfect. God gives us so many chances to be perfect, they cannot be counted.
"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." Matthew 5:48

He IS being given the same chance to be perfect that Adam and Eve were given. Everyone starts in perfection as a baby, and as we live, we blow it, not because we weren't given a chance, but because humans blow it.

The Bible says that through one man sin entered in. The sin nature is inherited. We are not sinners because we sin, we sin because we are sinners. None of us were created by God in the same manner in which Adam was created, otherwise we would have been given the same chance. Yet through Jesus we have that chance to be perfect, not because of our own righteousness, but because of His.

hmm.... i disagree with you there. i don't think we're perfect when we're baby's. do you have to teach a baby to covet something? no... it's nature.

Anyone can be perfect for Jesus taught the way to perfection. A person need only accept the grace of God to overcome sin and submit themselves to God's will, and once he has repented his old sins are washed away. Therefore, such a person would indeed be perfect, just as God himself is perfect.
