This came up in another thread so I am moving it here for coments. I know we have lots of scholars here, so there will differences in our opinions. That's OK. This is one of the most difficult prophecies to understand. So we can share our views but we do not need to become too insistant on them.

I have looked at end times studies for a long time. If anyone has ever visited the old "Yeshua the King" web site you will know of my indepth studies on the subject.

Daniels 70week pophecy is roughly divided into three pieces. The first 69 mark time from the babylonian exiles end to his birth, and makes comment that after that time, Messiah would be cut off. Doesn't say exactly at the end of the 69th week but some time after that. We can say now 33 years after that. Then there is the 70th week, and it is divided into two parts about 3 1/2 years each. It is divided in the "Midst" which is "About" middle.

The question always comes up about does there have to be a temple built and sacrifices started and ended again before the return of Messiah. I say no, perhaps not. Here is why.

I have looked at this in another way. I believe it has merit. First we must remember hat the Tribulation is (according to the revelation to Daniel as well as to John) 1290 days or about 3 1/2 years not seven. There are two signs given to Daniel that would precede the begining of this tribulation; The sacrifice whould be ended, and the abomination that make desolate. These signs beign in the middle of a week of years, the 70th week of Daniel 9. The 69th points to the comming of Messiah his birth not his death.

The first half of the 70th is the ministry of Messiah. With his death and resurrecion the need for sacrifice is ended until the Millennial Kingdom. So the fist of the two signs occured at the middle of the 70th week. We wait now for the abomination, which will signal the beginning of the second half of that 70th week. It was cut in the middle and held for these 2000 years.

Part of the confusion here is that it says that there will be "an abomination on a wing of the temple". This is not an accurate reading from the Hebrew and is an English translation "assumption." In fact the word "Temple does not appear in the text at all. What is says really is (Please excuse my memory here) "And on a wing, abomination until the consumation, desolation is poured out . . ."
In Hebrew the word for "Wing" is "Kanaph" which is also is used for "Wind" and in this setting means, "Abominations will come sudenly, like the burst of wind from a birds wing." This understanding is parellel to other verses which say, "And destruction will come as a flood" (A Flash flood is what is refered to" The point is, the verse "on a wing of the temple" really means suddenly and without warning, like a rushing wind"

So the botom line=
Messiah is the one who put an end to sacrifices (for a time) in the middle of the 70th week, and that was the first of two signs that will happen before the tibulation of the end times begins. The other sign will be when the abomination (Antichrist), rushes against them with sudden and unexpected destruction. The only qualifier here is that the Jews have to be in posession of Jerusalem, which happened in 1967.

Thank you so much for this thread,I hope alot of people reply because this is the most interesting subject to me and one that still leaves me confused. In the last couple of years I have convinced myself that there will be no single man who comes up and who is the Anti-Messiah.Well that's just my opinion and being that it is in oposition to everyone elses's opinion it's kinda tough.
Everytime I try to discuss it people get upset but sometimes just quoting scripture people get upset. I believe 666 means Tammuz and that John refered to Ezekiel 8 when he spoke about who the man is that owns this number.I think John in revelations was telling us to find the 666 in the law and the prophet's and there you will find the name of that man.In Ezekiel 8 sudden destruction comes upon the people who worship this man. I somewhat believe a third Temple might be buit. But the Temple spiritually is us.Those of us who worship Tammuz have brought abominations into our hearts{Temples}.

Saddam Hussein believes himself to be the risen Nebarchadnezara. His seal was his face transposed against the face of Nebardnezzra. The most important lesson about a Babylonian king is that he stands a statue of himself up and causes all people to worship this statue or die.We have all waited for the destruction of spiritual Babylon aand now it happened in the flesh. Before this war began something happend.
America and the entire world dragged out the question whether to fight the king of Iraq{Babylon} or not to go against him. Everyone had to make their own minds up and it completely polarized our nation. It's the big decision of the vally of Jezerel. We fought the war 12 years ago when 49 stripes were givin to Israel because Saddam launched 49 scuds into Irsael. Now the entire world watched as they pulled down that statue of that Babylon king by his own people.Never has this ever happened before.

At the voting booths you have to pass this statue of Saddam. When you voted for him it meant life because those who didn't vote for him were killed.

Saddam Hussein saw himself as supreme ruler over the Arab world. His main concern is to crush Israel because if any Arab does crush Israel, then he will rule..

Israel suffered 49 stripes the last time because of the great pressure put on her from America.

America stands behind Israel because we are polarized into two parties.Half of us claim Jerusalem as our capital also but the other half stands against
Israel.

The first war America held Israel back and tied her hands so that she had to suffer those 49 scuds without so much as a rifle shot.

The whole world has made their minds up either to fight Iraq or not to fight.

The greatest descision anyone will ever be forced to make is to stand with Babylon or to stand with Israel.Everyone has to make that descision.

Alot of people say that they hate Saddam Hussein. The question is,Do these people have anything to do with the king of Babylon? Tammuz the resurected Nimrod the builder of Babylon has his hands in everything Like Hyslop prooved that all paganism can be traced to Tammuz. He is Horus,Osirus,Baal,Saturn,Zeus,Shen moo ect.

You may oppose Saddam Hussein but there is also a trinity of Ha Satan. He too has a spiritual man that everyone worships.

If a person willingly involves themselves in the worship of the king of Babylon Isnt it the same thing as being marked on your forehead because you know what your doing.

If you are involved in the worship of the king of Babylon but you don't know it,Isn't that like being marked on your hand because you are being led blindly?

If a person spiritualy involves themselves in any form of worship of the king of Babylon is that like setting up an abomination within the temple of your body. If we are the temple and made in the image of G-d.then we likewise have 3 parts.Just as we know Yeshua is our Passover, came to us in the spirit at pentacost and will come to Sukkt when all nations will come up for the feast of Tabernacles.

Our quest is to approach the temple wether we be Jew or gentiles. You begin in the court of gentiles and if ur walk brings you into the temple proper that means you are no longer a gentile.

The holy place is now where you are both gentiles and jews. The question is who are those gentile aand Jews who actually reside in the holy of holies. We both have access to the Holy of Holies but who resides there? I know I dont.

Body,Soul,Spirit.

Likewise there is also a trinity Of Ha Satan.

You can hate Saddam but do you hate the spiritual king of Babylon?

You can stand in the gentile court and praise Yeshua but shouldn't you partake of the bread in the holy place and begin to see the light of the great menorah and begin to really know Hashem ?

Does it really matter if a third temple is built? I don't think so because I believe right now that Temple is almost built in the spiritual sense.

Exodus 13-Celebrate my Passover and it will be a mark on your right hand and forehead forever between me and your descendants forever

This prophesy would work better if indeed Daniel 9 actually mentioned a 70 week prophesy, but it actually doesnt, the correct translation is:
"Know and comprehend: From the emergence of the word to restore and to build Jerusalem until an anointed prince will be seven septets; and for sixty two septets it will be rebuilt, street and moat, but in troubled times."

I tried to bold the major difference there, which is the ";" semicolon, you may also notice it says "an" annointed one, not "the" anointed one. Meaning it is simply a king. But becuase of this semicolon, the sentence is supposed to be read as such: "from the going forth of the word to restore and build Jerusalem until an anointed prince will be seven weeks [STOP]; and for sixty-two weeks it shall be rebuilt…"

This is not only the case from the masoretic text, you would be surprised to find the original 1611 edition King James Version keeps this semicolon in, which means somewere along the line, the church changed it (surprise surprise) and here is a picture of it as proof:
http://www.boomspeed.com/trance_akuma/KJVDan9.JPG

After this the correct translation gos on to say "Then, after the sixty two septets, an anointed one will be cut off and will exist no longer; the people of a prince will come, and will destroy the city and the Sanctuary; but its end will be like a flood. Then, until the end of war, desolation is decreed."

This is clearly not speaking of Yeshua the Messiah, rather other anointed ones such as Cyrus and other Persian rulers that fit the date.
Shalom and G-d bless
