Why I no longer attend Churches of Christ

Disclaimer: I am not trying to be negative, just stating how I felt: 1) Most of their literature does nothing more than produce endless talk about baptism and worship with no instruments. 2) Every week during the Lord's supper, the server seemed to talk about how taking the elements strenghened...

Names of local Churches of Christ

I have noticed that such churches only contain geographical references (like "Smallville Church of Christ" or "Gotham Heights Church of Christ"). Why don't they use verbage like "First", "Calvary", "Trinity", "Faith", or "Grace" in their names?

    VBS for Adults

Years ago Lifeway (the Southern Baptist Convention's publishing house) had VBS curriculum for adults. Is having VBS for adults as well as children something churches are using in great numbers? I think it could be used to reach parents who are not yet Christians.

A question for those who attend liturgical churches

Do you ever get tired of saying the Lord's Prayer, one of the Creeds (Apostolic/Nicene), singing the Gloria (in some churches this occurs after reciting a creed), singing the Doxology (usually after the offering has been passed), "passing the peace", reciting a corporate confession of sin...

What is the origin of the phrase "The Good Lord"?

I believe God alone is good; but this phrase whenever i hear it sounds a tad flippant. I would rather use phrases like "God", "Lord", "Lord and Savior", "Lord Jesus", or "Heavenly Father" to describe His activity in the world and in my life.

    A question about Lymphodema

An ultrasound on the veins in my legs showed this; but the only thing I am finding out about this via online searches is that it is a side effect of cancer--something I never had. Since a second ultrasound on my arteries showed no problems (like Peripheral Artery Disease or Congestive Heart...

Is Christianity in the US too Patriotic?

We should do that every Sunday--Jesus Christ made the ultimate sacrifice in laying down His life--not merely to protect us but to give us the opportunity to accept His free gift of eternal life through faith in Him.

Is Christianity in the US too Patriotic?

With the advent of Summer--to include Memorial Day, Flag Day, and Independence Day--is it wrong for churches to remember our military, our veterans, our founding, etc; or should we just focus our worship on God?

Is this an appropriate statement to get visitors to join your church?

"We're glad you came. Please come back again". I feel offended when I hear this because the person making this comment appears to be more interested in my coming back than s/he is my joining the church and getting involved with it. The reason I feel this way is that I have been taught most of...

    Diversity of Baptists

From what I understand, having spent most of my Christian live in Southern Baptist churches, the local congregation ordains ministers and deacons; and they are allowed to serve in any like-minded congregation affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. This is in contrast to other groups...

Is revival still relevant to today's culture?

I'm referring to multi-day meetings where an itenarant evangelist (or pastor from a nearby church, more common where I live in MS) preaches sermons (usually containing "fire and brimstone" and coming from the KJV) urging the lost to come to Christ--followed by an endless singing of a song like...

    Hey from Maine

Welcome. I have always wanted to visit New England. Am I correct to assume that being a Christian there is different than if you were in the South?

    Diversity of Baptists

I was saved through a Southern Baptist collegiate ministry (Baptist Student Union, or BSU for short), was baptized in a Southern Baptist(SBC) church, have been a member of several SBC congregations, and have even been a member of churches relating quite strongly to the Cooperative Baptist...

What does the RM believe about the end times/Christ's 2nd Coming?

Well, then, what words do you use? Do you believe that the churches in Revelation 2 and 3 are representative of Christianity from the time of Christ's resurrection until the present day? Do you believe in a rapture of all Christians that precedes a 7-year tribulation where the Antichrist comes...

What does the RM believe about the end times/Christ's 2nd Coming?

Are the pre-mil, a-mil, post-mil, or a combination of these. Do they believe in a rapture of Christians prior to the tribulation?

Keeping your youth in the faith even after they graduate from high school

It seems like too many youth drop out of church and/or don't hold their relationship with the Lord in as high esteem once they leave high school. What are you who work with youth doing to ensure their faith is dyanmic and growing even after they leave your group? I have often wondered if youth...

    Swollen Ankles

I am seeing a specialist at a vascular clinic next week (and prayers are appreciated). In addition to the swelling, I notice quite a bit of itching and burning in my ankles.
