Blessed Feast of the Annunciation!

I saw this introit to the Magnificat and thought it to be quite beautiful:

‘Holy Mary,
come to the aid of us poor ones;
strengthen the faint-hearted,
console those who weep,
pray for your people
be a help to the priests,
intercede for pious women,
may all feel your aid
who celebrate your holy festival.’

Still popping in from over here in Montenegro!
If any of you old hands here wants to spend a few days on the sunny Adriatic in July or August, and maybe attend a Liturgy in the Serbian Church here, PM me!

Any baking going on in all of your homes? We’ve had a lot of issues going on at home. Baking tends to make it better, at least for awhile. :)

Alas, the bottom element in our oven failed at the end of last week and I have yet to determine if I can find a replacement. Maybe I should fire up the charcoal grill with the hood and do our baking in that. Things tast better cooked with charcoal, although I don't have any way of regulating the temperature.
My son was attempting to get a sourdough starter going a few months back only to have it go mouldy. I need to encourage him to have another go.

Oh that’s frustrating about the oven! I hope it can be repaired easily.

Baking with a charcoal grill….sounds like there is a lot of potential there!

I started my sourdough starter in December. It’s delicious, but it does take time to maintain it. If he restarts it, I recommend taking some starter discard and smearing it on parchment paper. Let it dry and crumble it for a shelf stable back up starter. If it ever fails, you can reconstitute the dried starter and avoid starting over from scratch.

Just in case this helps, a couple of years ago my bottom element stopped working, but it wasn't because the element failed. I was able to diagnose that it was a failure in the oven's circuit board. Was able to purchase that part and make a very simple fix for less than half the price of using a repairman.

I will be doing a full diagnosis before pulling anything out. My main concern is we bought this oven from ALDI, so it isn't a name brand and I'm probably going to dig down to find out who their supplier is to find compatible parts.
