I wouldn’t go that far. Many men wake up erect. He faced the same temptations we all do but overcame them all.
He did not "overcome" any of what we understand as temptations - The Greek word for it, interestingly, is translatable as "temptation" and/or "trial" or "test". Jesus was tried by the devil, with what would have been for us a trial and a temptation because in us is concupiscence (an inclination to sin - against which we must struggle, and overcome, to grow toward holiness); our human nature is deeply wounded, indeed broken. In Jesus is and was no concupiscence - in His human nature was no inclination to sin, but only submission to the Father who sent Him. He had and has no inclination to any sin, ever; His will is always one in the one divine will of the Trinity. Thus the devil did test and try Him, but in Jesus there was never nor could there ever be any place for, or any desire for, anything contrary to the holy will of God.
In us typical human men and women, some or even many sins are actually attractive for us; a temptation is rooted in the
desire for those sins - thus we can be tempted to embrace them. We must work - and with grace succeed - to overcome temptations to sin: they are
attractive to us; in us there is
desire for them.
Listen to James:
Jas 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted with evil and he himself tempts no one;
Jas 1:14 but each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.
Some err by over-emphasizing the human over the divine natures that Jesus possesses. This thread seems to be doing that, and thereby is overlooking the Truth that Jesus was/is fully man AND fully God. It is a mystery beyond our understanding - the hypostatic union - yet a mystery we can embrace in supernatural faith.
One more comment: the more common mistake of weighing the
humanity (which, by the way, is "like ours" without the sins and defects and weaknesses we struggle with) of Jesus more highly than His divinity, leads to errors of many kinds among Christians today. If we would not insult Jesus, we ought to reverence Him - adore Him - always. HE IS GOD. The very subject matter of this thread I find offensive and unworthy.
Well, one more comment. What we may observe to be common among men, the way they live, the way they die, may have no relevance
at all, to Jesus. He is NOT "like us" in every way. What we find in the Scripture is Truth; there is our proper source for discussions about Jesus.
